First Impressions and a Strange Question

Okay, so Berlin is… intense. Seriously, the sheer volume of people, the language, the everything! I’ve been here six months, trying to build my network and, honestly, feeling a bit overwhelmed. Okay, that made a lot more sense. It felt less overwhelming.

How does the collaboration with the other teams look?” He explained that they worked closely with DevOps, security, and testing teams. “Ist das ein sehr enger, interdisziplinärer Ansatz?” – “Is that a very tight, interdisciplinary approach?” He confirmed it was, “Absolut! Wir arbeiten eng mit allen Teams zusammen. Wir haben regelmäßige Meetings und arbeiten an gemeinsamen Lösungen.” – “Absolutely! We work closely with all teams. We have regular meetings and work on joint solutions.”

It’s reassuring to hear they value collaboration. It’s also great that they emphasize a “sicheren und strukturierten Umfeld” – “safe and structured environment,” which they back up with benefits like a health center and security measures. Honestly, that gives me a huge sense of security, especially as an immigrant navigating a new place.

Development and Flexibility

Naturally, I was curious about development opportunities. “Gibt es Möglichkeiten, sich weiterzubilden, angesichts des Tech Stacks, den Sie genannt haben?” – “Are there opportunities for further training, given the tech stack you mentioned?” He said they offered training programs and coaching, and – get this – they even offered sabbaticals! “Ja, die Firma bietet Weiterbildungsprogramme und Coaching an. Und ich habe gelesen, dass es auch Sabbaticals gibt – das finde ich sehr interessant. Ja, das stimmt! Wir fördern die berufliche Entwicklung unserer Mitarbeiter sehr.” – “Yes, the company offers training programs and coaching. And I’ve read that there are also sabbaticals – I find that very interesting. Yes, that’s right! We strongly promote the professional development of our employees.”

And of course, the flexible working arrangements were a big selling point. “Und vergessen Sie nicht, dass wir auch flexible Arbeitszeiten und mobiles Arbeiten anbieten.” – “And don’t forget that we also offer flexible working hours and mobile working.”
