Software Engineer (w/m/d) – Cloud Operations

My First Impressions: Krefeld and the Dräger Safety Cloud Team

Okay, so I’ve officially applied for this Software Engineer role in Krefeld, and I’m seriously trying to get my head around everything. Honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming, but also really exciting. I’m currently living in Berlin, so moving to a smaller city like Krefeld feels like a big shift – a good one, I hope! This call with the recruiter was a huge help, though. Let’s break down what I learned.

The Krefeld Introduction

The recruiter, let’s call him Klaus, painted a really positive picture of Krefeld. He said it’s a good mix of city life and nature, which sounded appealing. Apparently, it’s not huge, but it’s got a decent infrastructure and a lot of jobs, which is always a plus. The location is good too, central enough to easily get around the region. He explained they’re part of the service team at Dräger Safety, and the focus is really on the IT side – especially cloud operations. “Das klingt interessant,” he said, and it does sound interesting – I’m definitely keen on cloud stuff, especially Azure and microservices.

Diving into the Team – The DevOps Focus

Then he got into the specifics of the team. He described it as young and dynamic, mostly developers, but with a few DevOps experts. “Sie arbeiten sehr eng zusammen und sind generell sehr hilfsbereit,” he explained. That’s a huge relief! I’ve heard horror stories about teams that just don’t talk to each other. He mentioned they have people really interested in DevOps, which is fantastic because that’s something I’m really trying to get into. It sounds like a good mix of experienced people and younger ones, and they’re really focused on training and development – things like the Weiterbildungsprogramme and even sabbaticals! “Ein sehr modernes Büro in Krefeld,” he added – that’s a massive plus.

Asking About the Office & Security

I was immediately curious about the office. “Haben Sie die Möglichkeit, sich den Arbeitsort genauer anzusehen, vielleicht ein paar Bilder oder eine virtuelle Tour?” I asked. Klaus agreed to send me some photos. Then he brought up the video surveillance. “Die Büros sind sehr modern eingerichtet, es gibt auch ein Fitnessstudio und ein Gesundheitszentrum,” he said, and then, “Die Beobachtung der Videoüberwachung ist natürlich eine sehr wichtige Aufgabe – es geht darum, die Sicherheit in den Anlagen zu gewährleisten. Es ist ein wichtiger Beitrag zum Schutz von Menschen und Sachwerten.” Honestly, it sounded a bit intense at first, but I get it – security is paramount. They’re using the cloud data (Azure), which is where I’d be working! It’s a bit strange thinking about the data being stored in the cloud, especially with all the talk about security.

Collaboration and the “You Build It, You Run It” Approach

I wanted to understand how the team worked with others. “Können Sie mir noch etwas über die Zusammenarbeit mit den anderen Teams erzählen?” I asked. He explained that they collaborate closely with DevOps, security, and testing teams. “Es gibt regelmäßige Meetings und es wird viel Wert auf eine gute Zusammenarbeit gelegt,” he said. It’s good to know it’s not a silo situation. He then dropped the biggest bombshell: “Wir legen großen Wert auf den ‘you build it, you run it’-Ansatz.” That means I’m responsible for the entire process – from development to operation. “Sie können den Job auf Indeed finden: Read More“. Thanks for the link, Klaus!

A Little Bit of German – Quick Phrases

Just to show I’m trying, here are a few phrases I picked up:

  • “Hallo, ich habe mich für die Stelle als Software Engineer in Krefeld beworben” – “Hello, I have applied for the position of Software Engineer in Krefeld.”
– “What’s it like with the colleagues?”
  • “Verstehe.” – “I understand.”
– “It’s about ensuring the security of the premises.”

My Overall Impression

Honestly, after this call, I feel a lot more confident about the role and the team. It sounds like a really dynamic and supportive environment. I’m still a bit nervous about moving to a new city, but this has definitely eased some of my concerns. “Ich bin gespannt auf den nächsten Schritt im Bewerbungsprozess,” I said, and I really am!

Now, to start researching Krefeld… anyone have any tips for a newcomer?
